FINAL UPDATE – SIFFLEUR FALLS 2020 D-DAY CEREMONY
FINAL UPDATE – SIFFLEUR FALLS 2020 D-DAY CEREMONY

With the relaxing of Provincial restrictions on gathering numbers, we now have the capacity to have 50 members on site for this Saturday’s 6 June D-Day Ceremony at the Siffleur Falls Staging Area. Presently, we have 45 listed to attend. So, if you plan on coming to the ceremony and haven’t informed me to date, please do so quickly!

There is no real change to the planned ceremony. We said it would be a modified event and that aspect has not really changed. However, as we now have a bugler, a piper, a Padre, presentations to make and wreaths to place – it appears we will have a ceremony close to the format we are used to having. Only this time, there will be no sound system, no back flags and no programs handed out – and numbers will be reduced.

The Parade forms up at 1330 hours, 6 June 2020 at the Siffleur Falls Staging Area. Keep vehicles away from the front area of the monument. On form up, Social Distancing will be in affect, so our form up spacing will be adjusted accordingly. VPMC members notwithstanding, association dress with berets and medals is requested for the remainder. Parking at the back area should also be spaced. For those attending as spectators, I suggest you bring something to sit on. I remind everyone the ceremony/parade goes rain, or shine! Also, it is suggested we bring facial masks and personal hand sanitizing material. The use of masks for the parade is an individual preference decision. But it has been recommended.

A reminder that after this ceremony is over, we will begin planning in earnest for a Memorial Service on the 8th September 2020 at the monument, which coincides with the 20th Anniversary of the Dedication of the 1st Canadian Parachute Bn Cairn (Airborne Monument) in September 2000. It is hoped that by this time more restrictions related to the pandemic will be lifted, and a larger attendance for this event will be possible.

Finally, as most of you know, the David Thompson Resort (DTR) is closed. However, effective 01 June 2020 the DTR Campsite will be open. For those of you per chance interested in camp site reservations, you must do so by e-mail and contact DTR at: booking@davidthompsonresort.com

Questions regarding this year’s ceremony should be directed to me!
